Disk Quotas Activated

(This only applies to users who have had their accounts converted to the Debian system.)

Disk quotas have been activated. In this FAQ you will find answers to common questions regarding disk quotas. If you have further questions after reviewing the following information, please contact Reveal this e-mail address.

Q: WHAT ARE DISK QUOTAS?
A: A disk quota is a restriction on the amount of disk space a user can permanently consume on the disk system. For users, it is the amount of disk space that can be permanently consumed in their home directories (mailboxes and webspace.)

Q: BLUEHOME.NET HAS BEEN AROUND FOR SO MANY YEARS. WHY ARE THE DISK QUOTAS BEING ACTIVATED AFTER SO LONG?
A: We are migrating away from an older system that did not support disk quotas. Activation of disk quotas is a proactive step to keep disk space usage under control.

Q: WHO CONTROLS THE AMOUNT OF SPACE USERS CAN CONSUME?
A: BlueHome.Net sets the disk quota for each account. However, domain administrators may set individual quotas for specific users within their domain.

Q: HOW DO DISK QUOTAS WORK?
A: Your quota is the amount of disk space a user can permanently consume. A user can temporarily exceed this amount for two weeks. After two weeks, the server freezes the user's ability to create new files.

Q: USERS NEED TIME TO ADJUST TO QUOTAS. WHAT CAN BLUEHOME.NET DO TO EASE THIS ADJUSTMENT?
A: Because of the user impact of disk quotas, BlueHome.Net will send e-mail to users when they exceed their quota. This e-mail will serve as a warning to move important files from their home directories. These e-mail messages will be sent for an undetermined amount of time.

Q: HOW DO USERS REVIEW THEIR DISK SPACE USAGE FROM THE WEB?
A: Login to https://web.bluehome.net and click on System Information.
